Low data rates delayed the release of the first images from Zhurong until 2021-05-19.
The China National Space Administration released the first images taken by the Zhurong rover since its 2021-05-14 landing on Mars.
Zhurong’s sounding radar and the Tianwen-1 orbiter sounding radar will be used to search and map the distribution of surface and subsurface water ice.
Tianwen-1 entered Mars orbit on 2021-02-10 before deploying the Zhurong rover.
Zhurong is equipped with six science payloads including a laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy instrument, panoramic and multispectral imagers, a climate station, a magnetometer and a ground-penetrating radar.
