Denel SOC Ltd

ZA

Denel SOC Ltd is a South African state-owned aerospace and military technology conglomerate, established under the Department of Public Enterprises in April 1992 when Armscor's manufacturing subsidiaries (over 15,000 employees, most of Armscor's production/research facilities) were split off into a dedicated manufacturing entity, organized into systems, manufacturing, aerospace, informatics, and properties/engineering-services groups. Armscor retained procurement responsibilities. Denel has since been involved in South Africa's satellite and missile/rocket programs.

    Event context

In April 1992, Armscor's manufacturing subsidiaries (over 15,000 employees, most production/R&D facilities) were split off into a new state company, Denel, so Armscor could focus solely on defense procurement, resolving a conflict-of-interest between Armscor's dual role as manufacturer and buyer for the South African Defence Force.
