Armaments Corporation of South Africa (Armscor)

ZA

Armscor (Armaments Corporation of South Africa) is South Africa's state defense procurement agency, established in 1968 (as the Armaments Development and Production Corporation) to coordinate arms acquisition, notably during the apartheid-era UN arms embargo. In April 1992, Armscor's manufacturing subsidiaries were split off into a new state company, Denel, so that Armscor could focus solely on procurement/acquisition for the South African National Defence Force, resolving a conflict-of-interest between Armscor's roles as both manufacturer and buyer.
