ASTRA 1P will be based on the full-electric Spacebus NEO platform developed by Thales Alenia Space.
SES will launch the ASTRA 1P satellite later in 2024 to reinforce the 19.2 degrees East video neighbourhood.
Operating from SES’s 19.2 degrees East TV neighborhood (ASTRA 1P, ASTRA 1Q) and 57 degrees East (SES-26) will strengthen SES’s satellite broadcast coverage over Europe and Africa.
The debt will support SES investments in three previously announced satellites: ASTRA 1P, ASTRA 1Q, and SES-26.
ASTRA 1P and ASTRA 1Q were ordered in 2021 and are Ku-band satellites designed to replace aging broadcast spacecraft at 19.2 degrees East.
SES will operate satellites from its prime TV neighbourhood at 19.2 degrees East (ASTRA 1P, ASTRA 1Q) and at 57 degrees East (SES-26).
Thales Alenia Space is building ASTRA 1P, ASTRA 1Q, and SES-26 for launches to geostationary orbit next year.
ASTRA 1P will operate at 19.2 degrees East to deliver the highest-picture quality to the widest possible audience.
ASTRA 1P and ASTRA 1Q are slated to launch in 2024 to 19.2 degrees East to replace four spacecraft that primarily serve broadcast markets.
SES ordered ASTRA 1P and ASTRA 1Q from Thales Alenia Space as part of the same three-satellite contract.
