Switzerland's four state-run federal armaments enterprises (SE electronics, SF aircraft/systems, SM munitions, SW weapons systems -- tracing to the Eidgenossische Konstruktionswerkstatte, est. 1917) were consolidated under the 1997 Federal Act on Federal Armaments Companies. RUAG Holding AG was incorporated 1998 and began operations Jan 1, 1999, wholly owned by the Swiss Confederation.
