The Chinese State Administration for National Defense Science, Technology, and Industry (SASTIND) is a civilian agency responsible for formulating policies and regulations related to science, technology, and industry for national defense. Functioning under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, SASTIND oversees China's space activities, including defense technology development and international cooperation. The agency also supervises the nuclear weapon, aerospace technology, aviation, armament, watercraft, and electronics industries. SASTIND works with entities like the China National Space Administration (CNSA) and is involved in the administration of China's civil space program, including licensing, registration, and launch services.
Military equipment/space-launch functions to the new GAD; civilian defense-industrial oversight continued under the COSTIND name (renamed SASTIND in 2008).
