Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) is a Turkish technology center and a major player in the global aviation, space, and defense industries. TAI designs, develops, manufactures, integrates, and provides life cycle support for integrated aerospace and space systems, ranging from fixed and rotary-wing aircraft to unmanned aerial vehicles and satellites. Key space-related activities include the development and production of communication and earth observation satellites such as the Göktürk series and TÜRKSAT 6A. The company also operates Turkey's first Space Systems Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) Center, offering services to national and international customers and partners such as the Turkish Space Agency (TUA) and Aselsan.

    Event context

    The predecessor entity was incorporated under Turkey's Ministry of Industry and Technology on June 28, 1973. In 1984, it was reorganized as Turkish Aerospace Industries, Inc. (TAI/TUSAS), a 25-year Turkish-US joint investment company (with General Dynamics, later Lockheed Martin, as the US aerospace partner) to manufacture, integrate, and flight-test F-16 aircraft for the Turkish Air Force. Before the 25-year period ended, Turkish shareholders (Turkish Armed Forces Foundation and the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries) bought out the foreign shares in 2005, making TAI fully Turkish-owned. Modeled as a same-lineage identity change on the existing TAI org row.
