    Multiple independent Japanese-language secondary sources agree the ASDF space unit was formed 18 May 2020 as the Space Operations Squadron (宇宙作戦隊), expanded 17 March 2022 into the Space Operations Group (宇宙作戦群), and further reorganized 23 March 2026 into the Space Operations Wing (宇宙作戦団). This pass did not fetch a directly-quotable primary sentence for these exact dates, so confidence is inferred. Confirmed via Defense Minister press conference transcript (2026-03-06): "航空自衛隊に宇宙作戦団を新編します...部隊編成日は３月２３日となります" - confirms both the March 23, 2026 formation date and that the Wing was newly organized within (not detached from) the Air Self-Defense Force.
