Pakistan has the Pakistan Remote Sensing Satellite-1 (PRSS-1) in orbit, which was built and launched by China in 2018.
CAST provided training to Pakistan personnel as part of the PRSS-1 satellite package, with SUPARCO to operate PRSS-1 after on-orbit delivery.
PRSS-1 was placed into a 588 by 624 km orbit with an inclination of 98 degrees by a Long March 2C/SMA configuration using an upper stage.
PakTES-1A, a smaller scientific experiment satellite designed and developed by Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), was launched alongside PRSS-1.
PRSS-1 will be used for land and resources surveying, monitoring of natural disasters, agricultural research, urban construction, and providing remote-sensing information for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and the Belt and Road initiative.
PRSS-1 is based on a CAST-2000 satellite bus.
PRSS-1’s imaging system provides panchromatic imaging at 1-meter resolution and multispectral imaging at 4-meter resolution with a swath width of around 60 km.
