The US Air Force’s 9th Weather Reconnaissance Wing, Air Weather Service, Military Air Transport Service (MATS) headquartered at McClellan Air Force Base operated RB-57F aircraft with four squadrons deployed to California, Japan, Australia, and New Mexico.

The MATS satellite was deployed to a 585 km circular orbit following lift-off at 17:27 UTC.
The MATS spacecraft was designed to operate in a 585-kilometer dawn-dusk sun-synchronous orbit, a regime with limited rideshare opportunities that drove the need for a dedicated launch.
MATS is scheduled to launch at 6:20 p.m. CET on 2022-11-04 from New Zealand on a Rocket Lab launch vehicle.
OHB Sweden will use Swedish Space Corporation’s worldwide ground station services to support the MATS mission.
Swedish Space Corporation will provide LEOP and routine TT&C for MATS from its ground stations at Esrange Space Center in Sweden and in Punta Arenas, Chile.
OHB Sweden built the MATS spacecraft with some components provided by AAC Clyde Space.
MATS will operate in a dawn-dusk sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 585 km.
