The People's Armed Forces Maritime Militia (PAFMM) is a naval militia of the People's Republic of China and is a component of China's armed forces. It is a reserve force that is organized and commanded by the People's Liberation Army (PLA). The PAFMM is composed of mariners working in the civilian economy who can be mobilized to defend China's maritime claims and support the PLA Navy. The militia uses fishing vessels and purpose-built ships and participates in maritime operations in the South China Sea.
