International Hydrographic Organization

The International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) is an intergovernmental organization that ensures the world's seas, oceans, and navigable waters are adequately surveyed and charted. Established in 1921, the IHO coordinates the activities of national hydrographic offices and promotes uniformity in nautical charts and documents by setting international standards. While not directly developing space-related products, its work is relevant to the space industry through supporting maritime activities like coastal zone management, maritime defense, and the monitoring of changes to the marine environment. The IHO works in partnership with organizations like the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission and has a data center hosted by NOAA.
