The Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation (CDEI) was a UK government expert body focused on enabling trustworthy innovation using data and artificial intelligence (AI). It aimed to develop governance frameworks, guidance, and tools to build public trust in AI and data use, while also demonstrating positive applications of these technologies. However, as of January 2025, CDEI is no longer a standalone unit and its functions are embedded in other teams in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), including the Government Digital Service.
