The Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI) is Norway's central governmental institution for scientific research, mapping, and environmental monitoring in the Arctic and Antarctic. As a directorate under the Ministry of Climate and Environment, NPI serves as the Norwegian government's main provider of scientific knowledge relevant to environmental management in the Polar regions. NPI engages in climate research, studies of environmental pollutants, biodiversity, and geological mapping. It also manages Norwegian activities in Antarctica. In July 2024, NPI collaborated with ESA, Eurisy, and NOSA to organize the Space for Arctic workshop in Tromsø, Norway.
