ITA Airways is an Italian airline that is integrating space-based technology to improve its flight operations. As the first full-service airline in Europe to join the Iris program, in partnership with Inmarsat and the European Space Agency (ESA), ITA Airways is using satellite communications to enable more efficient flight routes, reduce CO2 emissions, and enhance air traffic management. The airline is equipping its new Airbus A320neo and A330neo aircraft with Inmarsat's SwiftBroadband-Safety (SB-S) platform to support this initiative. This collaboration contributes to airspace modernization in Europe, aligning with the Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) masterplan.
