The Glavnoye Razvedyvatel'noye Upravleniye (GRU), or Main Intelligence Directorate, is the foreign military intelligence agency of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia. It is primarily responsible for gathering and analyzing military-related intelligence through espionage and conducting covert operations abroad, and also maintains significant signals intelligence (SIGINT) and imagery reconnaissance (IMINT) and satellite imagery capabilities. Within its structure, the Cosmic Intelligence Directorate focuses on space-based intelligence collection, including activities at launch sites and research facilities. The GRU works alongside the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) and the Federal Security Service (FSB) to achieve strategic objectives for the Russian Federation.
