The Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian (CfA) is a large astrophysics research institute jointly operated by Harvard University and the Smithsonian Institution. Founded in 1973, the CfA leads research in astronomy, astrophysics, Earth and space sciences, and science education. The CfA manages or participates in observatories such as the Chandra X-ray Observatory and the Giant Magellan Telescope.
