The Vera C. Rubin Observatory, formerly known as the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST), is an astronomical observatory currently under construction in Chile. This observatory houses the Simonyi Survey Telescope, an 8.4-meter telescope with a novel three-mirror design, and the LSST Camera, the largest digital camera ever constructed for astronomy. Rubin Observatory is a joint initiative of the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science and is operated jointly by NSF NOIRLab and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and will conduct the 10-year Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) to create a comprehensive astronomical dataset.
