GB

The Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC) was a UK agency responsible for publicly funded science and engineering research from 1965 to 1994. SERC's activities included astronomy, biotechnology, space research, and particle physics. It also had oversight of several research facilities, including the Royal Greenwich Observatory and the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. In 1994, SERC was divided into three bodies: the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council (PPARC), the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).
