Guyana Forestry Commission

GY

The Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC), established in 1979, is a semi-autonomous governmental agency responsible for the administration and management of all state forest land in Guyana. The GFC advises the Minister on forest policy, laws, and regulations, and develops standards for forest sector operations. Recently, the GFC has partnered with companies like Maxar to utilize satellite imagery and analytics for tracking deforestation, protecting mangroves, and safeguarding biodiversity. The commission works to ensure sustainable management and utilization of Guyana's forest resources, guided by the National Forest Plan.
