Gaia collaboration

EU

The Gaia collaboration is a large, pan-European team of scientists and engineers responsible for the data processing and analysis of the European Space Agency's (ESA) Gaia mission. The Gaia mission, which operated from 2013 to March 2025, aimed to create the most accurate and complete multi-dimensional map of the Milky Way. By measuring the positions, distances, and motions of over a billion stars, Gaia helps astronomers reconstruct the structure, composition, and evolution of our galaxy. Key partners include ESA, the Gaia Data Processing and Analysis Consortium (DPAC), and various data centers like the Flatiron Institute.
