Gesellschaft für Weltraumforschung
The "Gesellschaft für Weltraumforschung" (GfW), or Society for Space Research, initially emerged in 1948 from the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Weltraumfahrt" ("Consortium on Space Flight"). It was created by German space enthusiasts to circumvent restrictions on rocketry experiments after the war and foster collaboration. In 1960 it was renamed "Deutsche Astronautische Gesellschaft" (DAG) and in 1979 to "Gesellschaft für Weltraumforschung und Raumfahrt".
