Organ Procurement and Transportation Network

US

The Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) is a national system established in 1984 by the National Organ Transplant Act to coordinate organ donation and transplantation in the U.S. It maintains a national waitlist of transplant candidates and facilitates organ allocation. The OPTN sets policies for organ procurement organizations (OPOs), transplant hospitals, and histocompatibility laboratories, all of which are required to be members. Leidos was recently awarded a contract to modernize the OPTN and improve its technology.
