Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC)

The Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) was established in 2018 as the Department of Defense's (DoD) Artificial Intelligence (AI) Center of Excellence, aimed at accelerating the adoption of AI across the department. JAIC worked with various military services and components to identify AI use cases, pilot solutions, and scale their impact, focusing on areas like AI-powered surveillance, edge computing, and network integration. While it initially focused on support tasks, JAIC's main focus shifted to supporting joint warfighting and network-centric warfare, partnering with industry, academia, and allies. In 2022, JAIC was integrated into the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO).
