NATO HALO (Hybrid Alliance Layered Operations in Space)

NATO HALO (Hybrid Alliance Layered Operations in Space) is a sovereign-satellite-integration initiative announced 2026-07-07 at the NATO Summit Defence Industry Forum in Ankara by eight allies: Denmark, Canada, Finland, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Turkey, with more allies expected to join. HALO networks existing and planned nationally owned military satellites, both transport and sensor layers, rather than building one NATO-owned fleet; it targets high-speed communications, intelligence, and missile tracking. As of the source date, NATO and the allies have not published a satellite count, architecture, funding mechanism, or deployment schedule; these are explicitly still to be determined. Reviewed 2026-07-14.
