The US Space Force’s Space and Missile Systems Center transferred Satellite Control Authority of GPS III SV05 to the 2nd Space Operations Squadron at Schriever Air Force Base on 2021-06-28.
As of March 26, 2019, GPS III was a program of at least ten satellites under contract with GPS III SV03-08 in various stages of assembly and test.
Contracts with SpaceX to launch GPS III SV05 and SV06 in 2021 were renegotiated last year to allow reused boosters, saving the government about $64,000,000.
SpaceX launched GPS III SV05 on a Falcon 9 from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on 2021-06-17.
