Danuri carries ShadowCam, a NASA-funded instrument built at Arizona State University to collect high-resolution images of the moon’s permanently shadowed regions to ascertain the distribution and accessibility of water ice and other volatiles.
KARI planned for KPLO to be captured into lunar orbit on 2022-12-16 and to perform propulsive maneuvers to reach a circular low-altitude orbit about 100 km from the lunar surface by 2022-12-31.
The KPLO launch was delayed from 2022-08-02 to 2022-08-04 to allow SpaceX to complete additional work on the Falcon 9 rocket.
