Internet Initiative Japan will be responsible for the development and maintenance of ground facilities and equipment for the Himawari satellites.

Mitsubishi HC Capital will establish a special purpose company in collaboration with the Japan Meteorological Agency and the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology for the operation of the Himawari geostationary meteorological satellites.

Japan’s Himawari weather satellite observed the December fireball using sensors that Harris Corporation designed for NOAA’s Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-R (GOES-R) series constellation.
