JAXA’s X-Ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission (XRISM) lifted off on an H-IIA rocket from Tanegashima Space Center at 08:42 JST / 00:42 BST / 01:42 CEST on 2023-09-07.
XRISM is a mission led by JAXA with ESA and NASA participation.
As of March 22, 2023, Universal Space Network STA SES-STA-20230322-00392 for JAXA XRISM was valid from May 12, 2023 through November 8, 2023 and listed an inclination of 31 degrees with apogee 550 km and perigee 550 km.
A thermal vacuum test of the XRISM satellite was underway at Tsukuba Space Center in August 2022 to simulate the vacuum and temperature environment on orbit and confirm satellite functions.
XRISM carries two instruments: Resolve, a cryogenic X-ray spectrometer developed with NASA, and Xtend, an X-ray imager developed by JAXA and Japanese universities.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries postponed the H-IIA Launch Vehicle No. 47 launch carrying XRISM and SLIM on August 24, 2023 and set an updated launch date of Sunday, August 27, 2023 with a reserved launch period of August 28 through September 15, 2023.
As of August 22, 2023, XRISM had been joined with the PAF and rocket fairing after propellant charging.
As of August 3, 2023, XRISM was expected to launch August 25, 2023 (August 26, 2023 Japan local time).
As of September 26, 2022, H-IIA F46 was listed to carry IGS Radar-7 sometime in the remainder of 2022 and H-IIA F47 was listed with a target of no earlier than April 2023 for XRISM and SLIM.
As of August 2, 2022, H-IIA F47 was listed to carry XRISM and SLIM with an estimated launch window of January–March 2023.
As of May 17, 2023, the XRISM and SLIM launch on H-IIA F47 was scheduled NET August 2023.
