THEOS-2/TRITON
10/9/2023
Airbus Defence and Space is delivering a very high resolution satellite and a comprehensive geo-intelligence system for the THEOS-2 Earth Observation Programme.
Mr. Olivier Chartier represented Airbus at the 2023-09-27 press conference about THEOS-2.
The first of the two original Vega launches is scheduled for 2023-10-06 and will place THEOS-2, FORMOSAR-7R/TRITON, and 10 smallsat secondary payloads into orbit.
THEOS-2 was launched aboard a Vega rocket on mission VV23 from the Guiana Space Center in French Guiana.
Following insertion into its designated orbit, THEOS-2 will transition to operational mode, including testing the control system and establishing communication with ground stations.
SSC provides LEOP support connectivity services and routine TT&C support to the Kingdom of Thailand’s national space agency GISTDA for THEOS-2.
THEOS-2 (Thailand Earth Observation System-2) is designed to deliver optical imagery with a 0.5 m ground resolution.
SSC supported the launch of Thailand’s high-resolution Earth observation optical satellite THEOS-2.
SSC is the key commercial ground station service provider for Airbus-built satellite mission THEOS-2.
On October 9, 2023, a Vega launch (VV23) placed THEOS-2, FORMOSAT-7R/TRITON, and multiple secondary payloads into sun-synchronous orbit.
As of August 31, 2023, the VV23 manifest listed THEOS-2, FORMOSAT-7R/TRITON, and ten auxiliary payloads for the Vega VV23 mission.
THEOS-2 is manufactured by Airbus Defence and Space for the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency of Thailand and is a Vega C customer payload.
THEOS-2 was scheduled to launch on Saturday, 2023-10-07 at 8:36 AM Thai time from the Guiana Space Center in South America.
