Laser beams from satellite laser ranging (SLR) stations were aimed at GFZ-1 to determine its position accurately.
GFZ-1 was the lowest geodynamical satellite ever measured by lasers.
The mini-satellite GFZ-1 was launched from the Mir space station on April 19, 1995.
