If successful, a Tianlong-2 orbital launch would make Space Pioneer the first privately funded Chinese company to reach orbit with a liquid propellant rocket.
Tianlong-2 used 85-ton-thrust YF-102 gas-generator engines incorporating 3D-printed components developed by CASC.
Space Pioneer’s Tianlong-2 kerolox rocket is designed to deliver 2,000 kg to low Earth orbit, measure 35 m high, and use a standard 3.35-meter Long March diameter.
The YF-102 engines powering Tianlong-2 are developed by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC).
Space Pioneer’s Tianlong-2 kerosene-liquid oxygen rocket was expected to launch from Jiuquan in the first quarter of 2023.
Three YF-102 engines powered the first stage of the Tianlong-2 rocket developed by private company Space Pioneer.
The Tianlong-2 rocket used 85-ton-thrust YF-102 gas-generator engines developed by CASC rather than Space Pioneer’s Tianhuo engines.
Space Pioneer has multiple orders for Tianlong-2 launches and plans to launch the Falcon-9-class Tianlong-3 in the first half of 2024.
Landspace is the second private Chinese launch firm to reach orbit with a liquid-propellant rocket after Space Pioneer’s Tianlong-2 reached orbit in April 2023.
